Frequency Diagrams

A frequency diagram is any chart that displays frequencies visually. The two most common types are the bar chart (for separate categories) and the histogram (for continuous, grouped data with no gaps between bars).

Use a bar chart when your data falls into distinct, separate categories (e.g. favourite colours). Use a histogram when your data is continuous and grouped into class intervals (e.g. heights grouped 140–149, 150–159).

Choose the right diagram type, or count how many bars a chart would need.
