Welcome to MathsFamily.com. By accessing or using this website, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use this site.
MathsFamily.com is a mathematics learning portal created to help parents and legal guardians support their children’s mathematical development. All learning resources are freely accessible to anyone. Account features are available exclusively to parents and legal guardians.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing MathsFamily.com you agree to these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, our Cookies Policy, and our Disclaimer. All four documents together form the complete agreement between you and MathsFamily.com.
2. Who May Use This Platform
MathsFamily.com is open to all visitors for browsing public learning resources. However, different user types have different levels of access:
| User Type | Permitted Access | Account Registration |
|---|---|---|
| Parents & Legal Guardians | Full access to all learning resources, quizzes, and account features | Yes — via Google Login only |
| Teachers & Educators | Free access to all public learning resources | No — account registration is not available to teachers |
| Children | Learning resources and quizzes under parental supervision | No — children are strictly prohibited from creating or independently using an account |
3. Account Registration
To create an account on MathsFamily.com, you must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 16, you may not register directly — a parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account on your behalf. Registration is completed via Google Login. By registering, you confirm that:
- You are at least 16 years old, or you are a parent or legal guardian registering on behalf of a child under 16
- The information you provide through Google Authentication is accurate
- You will not allow a child under 16 to independently create their own account
- You will keep your login credentials secure and not share them with others
At registration, you will be asked to provide a self-declared birth year and to read and accept our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. No personal data is written to our systems until you have completed this step. The text of your attestation and the timestamp are recorded as part of our consent audit trail. We collect only the minimal data provided by your Google account necessary to create and manage your account. We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.
4. Children’s Privacy and Parental Controls
The safety and privacy of children is our highest priority. In compliance with COPPA and GDPR-K:
- Children under 16 must not provide any personal information on this platform or create their own account
- All account activity is tied solely to the parent or guardian who registered
- We do not collect, use, or retain personal data from children
- If we discover that personal data has been inadvertently collected from a child, we will delete it immediately
- Parents may contact us at any time to request deletion of account data at info@mathsfamily.com
5. Data Protection and Privacy
We are committed to full compliance with all applicable data protection laws:
- GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) — applies to users in the European Union and European Economic Area
- GDPR-K — our specific obligations regarding the data of children
- COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) — protects children under 13 in the United States
Legal Basis for Processing
We process personal data on the following lawful bases:
- Contract performance — to provide you with account access and manage your profile
- Legitimate interests — to improve our platform and ensure security
- Legal obligation — where required by applicable law
- Consent — for non-essential cookies and optional communications
Your Data Rights
As a data subject under GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — you may ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Right to erasure — you may ask us to delete your data, subject to any legal obligations
- Right to restriction — you may ask us to restrict how we process your data
- Right to data portability — you may request your data in a commonly used machine-readable format
- Right to object — you may object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to complain — you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@mathsfamily.com.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you close your account or request deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Data Breach Notification
In the event of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach. Where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights, we will also notify you directly without undue delay.
6. Data Use
Data obtained through your Google account during registration is used solely for:
- Creating and managing your account
- Providing you with access to your account profile and personalised account features
Progress data and account information are used only by the account holder for their own personal use. We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond account management. We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
7. Advertising
MathsFamily.com uses Google AdSense to display advertisements to help keep the service free. Our advertising policy is as follows:
- On all learning and child-facing pages, we serve non-personalised (contextual) advertisements only, in compliance with COPPA and GDPR-K
- Interest-based or behavioural advertising is not permitted on any page where children may be present
- All advertising signals are blocked by default via Google Consent Mode v2 until a user explicitly gives consent via the analytics consent banner
- Parents and guardians can manage cookie and ad preferences through our consent banner, browser settings, or at adssettings.google.com — see our Cookies Policy for full details
8. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-09E7E6B332) to understand how visitors use the site. Analytics is only activated after you give explicit consent via the cookie consent banner shown on your first visit. Our configuration anonymizes IP addresses, disables Google Signals, and enables restricted data processing — no personally identifiable information is sent to Google.
9. Cookies
We use cookies to support core website functionality and security, and — with your consent — for analytics and advertising. For a full explanation of every cookie we use, how consent works, and how to manage or withdraw consent, please read our Cookies Policy.
10. External Links
MathsFamily.com may contain links to third-party websites for supplementary learning. We do not endorse or control the content of these sites. Parents and guardians should review any third-party site before allowing their child to use it. We encourage you to read third-party privacy policies before sharing any personal information.
11. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, disclosure, loss, or destruction. Our platform is hosted on AWS cloud infrastructure. While we take security seriously, no method of transmission over the internet is entirely secure. We will notify you in the event of a breach that may affect your personal data, as described in Section 5 above.
12. Intellectual Property
All content on MathsFamily.com — including text, images, quizzes, worksheets, and interactive tools — is owned by MathsFamily.com or used under licence. Unauthorised copying, reproduction, or distribution of any content is prohibited. Teachers and parents may use resources for personal or classroom support purposes, but may not reproduce content for commercial gain. To report intellectual property concerns, contact us at info@mathsfamily.com.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. All changes will be published on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We encourage you to review this page regularly.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MathsFamily.com and its affiliates shall not be liable for:
- Any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of this site
