Introduction to Matrices

A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers arranged in rows and columns. Matrices are used to organise data, solve systems of equations, and describe transformations such as reflections and rotations.

For example, ⎡2  5⎣⎡1  3⎣ is a matrix with 2 rows and 2 columns. Each number inside a matrix is called an element.
