Frequency Tables
A frequency table organises raw data by showing how many times each value or category occurs. The count for each value is called its frequency.
Building a Frequency Table
Given the raw scores 2, 3, 2, 4, 3, 2, 5, 3, we can tally each value:
- Score 2 → appears 3 times → frequency 3
- Score 3 → appears 3 times → frequency 3
- Score 4 → appears 1 time → frequency 1
- Score 5 → appears 1 time → frequency 1
The frequencies always add up to the total number of data values recorded (here, 3 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 8).
Practice: Frequency Tables
Count frequencies from raw data or add up a frequency table's totals.
